Situated on a hill, the fort offers a clear view of Reims and the surrounding area.

What is the purpose of the Fort of the Pompelle Museum?

This high place of culture offers you a total immersion in the skin of a soldier during the First World War. The goal is to show you how hard the fighting in Champagne and Reims was.

A little bit of history...

From 1916 onwards, 180 regiments including 2 Russian regiments, i.e. about 1800 men, were present at the fort. Discover the fort and its museum which presents, with the help of a scenography renovated in 2014, the major stages of its history, from 1883 to the present day.

The Fort of La Pompelle was built in 1883 to complete the fortified belt of the city, designed by General Séré de Rivières after the 1870 war.

It was the key to the defence of Reims during the First World War.
