Built in the 20th century, the Verzenay lighthouse was not intended to help ships locate the position of dangerous areas near the coast.
No! the lighthouse had a completely different vocation, much more original: the publicity of the champagne brand of Joseph Goulet!

Indeed, visible from afar, the lighthouse intrigued and aroused a craze, until it became a place not to be missed in this region! When night falls, the lantern of the lighthouse glittering on the hills of Verzenay can be seen as far as Reims.

 

What can you discover at the Verzenay lighthouse ?

This unusual monument, shelters today the museum of the Champagne vine, where a ludic and educational course awaits you there.
If you wish to have all the historical details of this unusual place and its region, a commented visit on the history of Champagne region is also possible.

For the most adventurous among us, it is possible to climb the 101 steps of the lighthouse. At the top, 25 meters high, you will discover a splendid panorama on the surrounding vineyards.

But that's not all! Very creative, Joseph Goulet had the improbable idea to bring to this building a marine freshness, by building around it a garden reminding the sea and the coastline.
