« En route » to the Montagne de Reims Regional Nature Park, located between our establishment and Épernay and bordered by vineyards to the south, north and east.

• The 70 million year old Reims mountain is a real geological treasure composed of chalk, sand, clay and limestone, just a few kilometers from our hotel!
• Take the time to discover the roads of the Montagne de Reims and admire this mosaic of agricultural plains, forests bordered by hillsides on which grow an exceptional vineyard.

- Did you know that?

• It is called "the Montagne de Reims" because of the change in altitude between the Champagne plain at 80 meters, the cuesta where the vines grow at 200 meters and Mount Sinai at 286 meters.
• The Montagne de Reims Regional Nature Park offers a variety of landscapes conducive to the development of a very diverse and abundant flora: forests, valleys, rivers, ponds, moors are natural environments that abound in rare species. 
• The Montagne de Reims is punctuated by beautiful and well-maintained villages, just like the rows of vines.
• In all the villages, the facades, even the simplest ones, are decorated with cornices and bands. The roofs are mostly made of red clay tiles.
• The traditional wooden wine presses and the vaulted cellars are the witnesses of a prosperous and historical activity. All contemporary buildings have been carefully integrated into the landscape to preserve both the cultural heritage and the visual harmony of the landscape.
• The Montagne de Reims Regional Nature Park is a special cultural heritage because it is closely linked to the activities of the people of the region and to history. 
• The Park has more than 10,000 hectares of vineyards classified as AOC Champagne.

Stop and admire

• the wash houses and fountains in Mareuil-sur-Ay, Dizy or in the hamlet of Orcourt. Built in stone, wood or brick, they are part of the region's heritage.
• Drive through the south of the Park to see the bridges, locks and their houses. Stop to admire the amazing swing bridge of Bisseuil, the weirs of Tours-sur-Marne or the lock and the lock keeper's house in Dizy.
• Souvenirs of the Romanesque art and the Middle Ages, the Romanesque churches are also scattered in this region.

This territory, sometimes invaded, exploited, destroyed and then rebuilt, is marked by the Gallo-Roman period, the Middle Ages and the wars that hit the region.

The Romanesque churches that you will discover were badly damaged or even totally destroyed during the Great War.

Many of them had to be rebuilt while preserving the vaults, the bell towers, the arches and the columns.

If the Mountain of Reims was used for 4 years as a promontory to observe the front line during the First World War, it was also the scene of many battles.

If you are interested in history, you can visit the military cemeteries which keep in memory the theater of the 14-18 war.

On the communes of Bligny and Marfaux, more than 80 monuments to the dead have been erected in the form of engraved plaques or obelisks, sometimes decorated with sculpted figures.

The military observatory of Mount Sinai and its blockhouses are now classified as historical monuments.

 

Exceptional forests, between mysteries and greenery

The forest massif of the Montagne de Reims covers nearly 40% of the Park's territory. It is composed of private, communal and state-owned forests. The trees that make up these forests and that you will see beech, oak, alder or ash make up this massif and shelter a rare and even unique flora and fauna. 

Overflowing with legends and mysteries, the forest will make you happy if you are a nature lover.
